2025 ACE COASTER CON PHOTO CONTEST RULES AND PROCEDURES
PLEASE NOTE: Onride photos will NOT be accepted.
The Coaster Con 47 photo contest is open to current members of the American Coaster Enthusiasts (ACE). The contest director is Emery Picotte, phone: (401) 266-3345, email: epicotte@aceonline.org.
A member may enter up to three (3) photographs. Each photograph must be roller coaster related. A photograph not showing an existing or defunct roller coaster, or part thereof, will not be accepted as an entry. In addition, all entries must conform
to the following regulations:
- Each photograph must not be smaller than 8 x 10 inches or larger than 11 x 14 inches. If the photograph has a border, the picture area still must be a full 8 x 10 and no larger than 11 x 14. Photos may be glossy or matte finish and may be
in color or black and white. Each photo must be an original and must have been taken by the entrant. Photographs may not be attached to a matte or framing board.
- It is recommended that entrants retain a copy of each entry for their files. Reasonable care and precaution will be taken to protect all entries; however, neither ACE nor its representatives are responsible for lost, damaged or stolen photographs.
- Each entrant's photograph(s) shall be submitted at convention registration, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. CDT on June 15, 2025, at the Great Wolf Lodge in Gurnee, IL. No photograph may have the entrant's identification anywhere
on it. Each entrant shall submit photograph(s) in an envelope with full name, membership number, complete mailing address, telephone number, email address and total number of photographs being submitted clearly written on the outside of
the envelope. Additionally, all entrants must provide the name of the coaster(s) and park(s) featured in each photograph entered. Mail-in entries should include a separate note with this information, while entrants submitting in person
may do so verbally. This park and coaster information may be provided to any voter requesting it for any picture entered. Each entrant will be given a receipt for the photograph(s) submitted.
- Entrants are requested to submit an up-to-date photograph of themselves with their submission, to be used when awarding the winners of the photo contest.
submit photo here
- Entrants who are unable to attend the convention may have another individual who is attending the convention submit photographs by proxy in the manner set forth above. In such cases, the outside of the envelope shall also clearly list the
proxy's full name, membership number, complete mailing address, telephone number, email address, the number of photographs being submitted and the park(s) and coaster(s) featured in the photographs.
- Entrants may also mail their entries to contest director Emery Picotte prior to the convention. In such cases, the photograph(s) must be postmarked by May 31, 2025, and be received by June 7, 2025. It shall be the entrant's responsibility
to ensure the photograph(s) is received by the contest director by the deadline. ACE is not responsible for misdirected or undelivered mail. The entrant is responsible for packing entries in a manner to avoid damage. Entrants are advised
not to ship entries via a method that will require a signature, as there may not be anyone available to provide one prior to the deadline. Mail entries to Emery Picotte, 473 Broad St. #3, Cumberland, RI 02864, USA.
- All entries will be displayed for viewing at the time and location specified by the official Coaster Con 47 schedule, which will be distributed to all attendees at the start of the convention. This year's entries will be displayed at Six Flags
Great America. As with all event activities, this information is subject to change, and in such an instance, due notice will be given through various announcements.
- Winning photographs are chosen by popular vote. Each convention attendee will receive one ballot in the convention packet. No other ballots, including replacements for lost ballots, will be distributed or accepted. Convention attendees may
indicate on their ballots their choices for first, second and third place. Each first-place vote will earn three points; each second-place vote will earn two points; each third-place vote will earn one point. No photograph may be voted
for more than once on any single ballot; any such action will render the ballot invalid. The three entries with the greatest number of points will be awarded first, second and third place, respectively.
- Winning photographs and entrants will be announced during the annual banquet. Award plaques will be presented for each of the winning entries. All winning entries become the property of ACE and will be retained for publication in a future
issue of RollerCoaster! magazine with appropriate credit and identification.
- Nonwinning entries may be reclaimed from the photo contest director IMMEDIATELY following the banquet. Each entrant must present the photo contest claim receipt he or she received upon submission of the entry(s) in order to have the photograph(s)
returned. Nonwinning entries not reclaimed in the banquet hall immediately following the banquet will be donated to the ACE photo archives unless the entrant specifically requests otherwise. Entrants who do request otherwise and do not
claim their nonwinning entries IMMEDIATELY following the banquet must send a self-addressed, stamped mailer, with adequate postage, to the contest director at the address above.
- The contest director reserves the right to revise the schedule that is described or implied herein. The interpretation of these rules by the contest director is final.
Welcome to the
Coaster Con Video Contest Page
Let's Celebrate!
This year will be the 25th anniversary for the Coaster Con Video Contest.
Because this is the 25th ACE Video Contest, let’s make this year’s contest the biggest one ever!
Should the combined number of qualifying video contest entries from both Standard and Short-Form categories total 25 or more by midnight (Eastern Daylight Time) on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, one lucky entrant (selected at random on Wednesday, June
11) will win a mystery prize! The mystery prize (donated by Luke Fillion) will be awarded in person during Coaster Con, or by mail (should the winner be unable to attend in Coaster Con in person).
Please note that a prize will only be awarded if the total number of contest entries is 25 or greater on June 10.
Questions should be directed to...
- Video Contest Coordinator:
- Luke Fillion
- Email:
- lfillion@aceonline.org
- Voicemail:
- (905) 921-9495
- Special Note:
- During Coaster Con, Luke will be available by email or text at the same phone number.
2025 ACE COASTER CON VIDEO CONTEST RULES AND PROCEDURES
The ACE Coaster Con Video Contest is open to current members in good standing of the American Coaster Enthusiasts. The video contest coordinator is Luke Fillion. He may be contacted with questions via email at lfillion@aceonline.org or voicemail at (905) 921-9495. (During Coaster Con, Luke will only be available via email or WhatsApp, as his voicemail will be inactive during the convention).
Each participant may enter up to two (2) videos in each category of the contest: Standard and Short-Form. In order to qualify, these entries must conform to the following regulations:
- Each video must be roller coaster related. Entries that do not predominantly feature past, present or future real-world roller coasters will not be accepted.
- No point-of-view (POV) footage, photography or videography taken while onboard any roller coaster may be included. POV footage, photography or videography taken while onboard other rides or attractions will be reviewed under established guidelines
by the video contest coordinator and in accordance with park regulations.
- The content of each video must be suitable for viewing by all ages.
- Each video contest entry must be original and the intellectual property of the entrant. Entries must be recorded and edited by (or at the direction of) the entrant. Videos may include audio such as music and narration. Any computer-generated
images (CGI) included in entries must be original and not copied from a park or manufacturer video. While they may be used for additional imagery or in conjunction with real-world rides, please keep the use of ride simulations such as
No Limits 2 or Planet Coaster to a minimum, as they do not reflect the spirit of the video contest.
- No video may reveal the identity of the entrant in any way.
- Each video contest entry must be no more than four minutes in length. While there is no specific minimum length, videos shorter than one minute must be entered into the Short-Form category.
- A three-to-five-second title card is required before and after the body of the video. This title card should contain only the title and category of the video and will not count against video length restrictions (i.e., four minutes plus both
title cards is acceptable).
- Video contest entries may be submitted by electronic means only (Google drive link, WeTransfer.com, etc.). The name, email address and membership number of the entrant must accompany each entry, either in the body of an email or text file.
- Entrants are asked to submit an up-to-date photograph of themselves with their video contest entry. This photo may be shown when awarding the winners of the video contest.
- Entrants are required to contact the video contest coordinator to ensure that their entry was received. The coordinator will respond once the video is received and may request changes to the work if contest regulations are not met.
-
The contest will be carried out during Coaster Con according to the following procedures:
- All entries meeting the above requirements will be shown during the video contest at the time and location specified by the official Coaster Con schedule.
- The official Coaster Con schedule will be distributed to all attendees at the start of the convention.
- As with all event activities, this information is subject to change, and in such an instance, due notice will be given through various announcements.
Scoring of Entries and More Information
-
Convention attendees may indicate on their ballots their choices for first and second place in each category.
- Each first place vote will earn two points; each second place vote will earn one point.
- No video may be voted for more than once on any single ballot; any such action will render the ballot invalid.
- The two entries with the greatest number of points in each category will be awarded first and second place, respectively.
- Winning entrants will be announced during the annual Coaster Con Banquet, with winning videos being screened (either in whole or in part) at the discretion of the banquet organizers. Award plaques will be presented to each winning entrant,
and winning videos will be posted on CoasterCon.com.
- Entrants retain all copyright on their work. However, after the contest, all entries in the contest become the physical property of the American Coaster Enthusiasts, and ACE retains the right to use the material or any part thereof for its
benefit and for proprietary purposes. Entrants should be sure to keep a copy of their work for their own archives.
- Reasonable care and precaution will be taken with all entries; however, neither ACE nor its representatives are responsible for lost, damaged or stolen videos. It is recommended that you bring additional copies of your work with you to the
convention (if you are attending) in case there are any technical or other problems with your entry.
- The ACE president, events director and/or video contest coordinator reserve the right to revise the contest rules and regulations at any time. The interpretation of these rules by the video contest coordinator is final.
