Hands-On Activities

(click on the activities for more information.)

Your Very Own Amusement Park
Build It

Bust out the LEGO, K'Nex, building block, Magna-tiles or whatever materials you have on hand to construct your kid’s dream amusement park! Flatten some large cardboard and draw pathways for guests in between their imaginative rides.

Need some inspiration for rides and water park slides? Here's the list of all of Cedar Point's attractions to get the juices flowing.

Design It:

If you don’t want to take up your entire living room space with an entire amusement park, have your kids draw or paint their dream park on paper. Maps are like mazes and give a promise of adventure. Probing questions can help children plan their park:

  • What kind of rides are there?
  • Does it have a water park?
  • What kind of food would people eat? Are there restaurants? If so, are they indoor or outdoor?
  • What’s the setting for the park? In the mountains, on the ocean, in a forest, etc?
  • Who would go? Is this for grown-ups or just for kids?
  • Are there fun characters to meet in this park?
  • How do people get there? By car, train, boat or airplane? Maybe they need a place to park these modes of transportation.
  • Is it a park that’s open in all seasons? Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter?

For reference, here is the Cedar Point park map.

How does this event work?
  • If filling the train with...
    • ...ACE riders, they will line up at the ride exit 30 minutes ahead.
    • ...park guests, load the train as usual prior to the event start time.
  • A few minutes prior to the event, escort riders to the boarding platform to be ready to fill the train.
  • We recommend taking photos or video clips of loading, launching, and returning trains.
  • Just prior to the start time announce:
    • “We have a special surprise for you today! Today is the anniversary of the first modern roller coaster, the Switchback Railway, built by La Marcus Thompson in 1884 at Coney Island, New York. Parks throughout the country are launching trains simultaneously at the top of the hour – The World’s Largest Roller Coaster Ride! Please help us to count down to launch!”
    • Count down prior to launch time, “5, 4, 3, 2, 1!”
  • Take video clips of the count down and train dispatch, and post on the ACE file server (location TBA).
How much time does this involve?

The time commitment should be minimal. 45 minutes is estimated. Escort your riders onto the train, dispatch the train, and upload content. Parks only need a representative to escort ACE riders, if using. Otherwise, it’s as simple as making an announcement at the boarding station just prior to the 2pm EDT dispatch, and countdown. Parks also are encouraged to take video clips and photos to share with ACE for promotion.

How do I get riders?

Should I invite the media?

Some parks have chosen to invite local media to participate in the event, or invited local high school valedictorians to ride to promote their community. Others have used the occasion to promote a new or reimagined ride.

Are Riders comped their admission?

There is no expectation that riders receive free admission or any other rewards for their participation. Participation in the event alone is appreciated!
