Coasting in the Alleghenies
|
Join us for a day at two wonderful
traditional parks, both over 100 years old, in Blair
County, in the heart of
the Allegheny
Mountains! Lakemont Park in Altoona is home to Leap
the Dips, the world's oldest roller coaster, as
well as Skyliner,
a peppy John Miller-designed PTC coaster that
originally opened at New York's Roseland Park in
1960 and got a new lease on life after being moved
to Lakemont where it reopened in 1987. Both of those
coasters will be included in ERT! Lakemont Park also
includes a number of other rides and attractions,
including two very attractive miniature golf
courses. DelGrosso's Park in Tipton is just 10
minutes from Lakemont, and it includes a fine
selection of classic-style rides, including a
Reverchon Crazy
Mouse, with spinning vehicles. Guests will find
Laguna Splash to be one of the nicest waterparks in
the region. As part of DelGrosso Foods, known
for its lines of spaghetti sauce, the park has a
reputation for great food, so it's no surprise that
the event will include a spaghetti picnic dinner
featuring a side of Murf's Famous Potato Salad!
|

|

This event incorporates Gary Baker
Memorial Day. If you didn't know Gary
Baker, he was a longtime ACE member who
was a strong advocate for the amusement
industry and roller coaster
preservation. He was heavily involved in
the fundraising that lead to the
restoration of Leap
the Dips,
the world's oldest roller coaster, which
is located at Lakemont Park. He also
served ACE in numerous capacities,
including as regional representative for
ACE Western Pennsylvania and as ACE's
national events director, a position
that he held for six years. Gary passed
away unexpectedly in fall of 2009. This
reoccurring event was created to honor
Gary, who truly loved all parks, but
especially the traditional ones.
Lakemont Park and DelGrosso's Park were
undoubtedly two of his favorites.
Gary
Baker Memorial Miniature Golf Tournament
Next to roller coasters, one of Gary Baker's great passions was miniature golf.
As a member of the PPA (Professional Putters Association), Gary played professionally! Throughout his time in ACE, he engaged many members to play and enjoy the sport, so a memorial tournament seems
fitting, especially at one of his favorite parks, which he'd be pleased to know is now home to two miniature golf courses! All are welcome to play either or both courses for fun, but to participate in the tournament you must play both courses!
- Only those registered to attend Allegheny Mountain Madness may enter the miniature golf tournament.
- You may play either the Rabbit Hole course, Keystone Falls course or both.
- Play with at least one other contestant.
- Have first and last names on score card
- Follow all course rules, including 6-stroke limit and adding a penalty stroke for each time the ball leaves the course (and is placed back on where it left).
- Turn in score cards to Regional Rep Bill Linkenheimer. The final time to do so is by 4:45 p.m. at Pavilion at DelGrosso's Park.
- The grand prize will be for the lowest combined score for both courses.
- Two other prizes will be given for the best score on each individual course, with the grand prize winner ineligible.

To participate in ACE Western Pennsylvania’s famous ITOTs (Informal Take-Over Times) of rides arrive five minutes prior to the scheduled time and wait until the time to enter the queue as a group and enjoy it together. Please be respectful of other park guests, as large groups can sometimes appear to be overwhelming.
The greatest concern of
American Coaster Enthusiasts is the health,
safety and enjoyment of its members. To
ensure continued safety, ACE is closely
monitoring the ever-evolving (and rapidly
improving) COVID-19 situation. As a result,
we ask that you respect the wishes of ACE
and the parks.
Please follow and respect all safety procedures instituted by Lakemont Park and
DelGrosso's Park, our hosts for the event. Note that both parks require guests
who are not fully vaccinated to wear face coverings (properly over both the
mouth and nose) at all times except when activingly eating and drinking.
Lakemont Park's policies may be found
here and DelGrosso's Park's policies may be found
here.
We
realize that you may not get to see some of your ACE friends often and may be
excited to see one another, but given health concerns, we suggest that you
follow common protocols for health safety. Not everyone is fully vaccinated and
everyone has different comfort levels in terms of being in close proximity to
others. Please be respectful of other members who may wish to keep a safe
distance.
