Dollywood
Since 1986, visitors from around the world have become well acquainted with the Dollywood name and experience. However, the entertainment park actually traces its roots back to 1961 when Rebel Railroad first opened on the site that, over
time, has expanded and grown into the Dollywood we know and love today.
Designed and built by the park’s in-house maintenance and construction crew in 1978, Blazing Fury still sends riders off to escape the burning town with its “Fire In the hole!” warning of impending danger. This classic coaster/dark
ride dates back to the park’s yesteryears when it shared the name of its sister park in Branson, Missouri, Silver Dollar City.
In 1999 the coaster additions at the park ramped up with the addition of Tennessee Tornado. This Arrow Dynamics steel coaster designed by Alan Schilke ranked as one of the Top Ten scream machines of the South when it opened
and is consistently rated as one of the best Arrow Dynamics roller coasters ever built. Thunderhead, the Great Coasters International, Inc. wooden coaster, opened in 2004 in a new section of the park called Thunderhead Gap.
Carefully situated between two mountains, this massive wooden coaster takes advantage of the area's rough and tumble terrain to create a daring ride, featuring a 100-foot drop and a top speed of 55 mph.
Mystery Mine, opened in 2007, asks riders what if there is no light at the end of the tunnel? This steel coaster, manufactured by Gerstlauer, contains 1,811-feet of track and travels through an abandoned coal mine. Uncertain
encounters and amazing maneuvers await, including an explosive 95-degree, 85-foot vertical drop that plunges into darkness!
Wild Eagle, Dollywood’s 2012 addition and America's first Bolliger & Mabillard wing coaster, is perched 21 stories above the park. This “first ride of its kind in the U.S.” takes riders through four inversions as they
soar high above the Smoky Mountains on the wings of a bald eagle. In 2014, Dollywood once again reached out to Gerstlauer to design a family attraction for heroes of all sizes. FireChaser Express, the nation’s first dual-launch
family coaster, celebrates the few brave souls willing to answer the call. Themed to the local fire departments of the past, this coaster lets riders suit up and help preserve the Smokies for generations to come.
In 2016 Lightning Rod launched onto the scene as the world’s fastest wooden coaster. Themed after a tricked-out 1950s-era hot rod, this now wood and steel hybrid Rocky Mountain Construction coaster launches riders from
zero to 45 mph more than 20 stories up its lift hill. The remainder of the ride has some of the wildest moments on a coaster anywhere, including a quad-down finale taken at high speeds.
Whistle Punk Chaser, the 2017 junior coaster from Zamperla, throws thrilling twists and turns at Dollywood’s younger thrill seekers!
Dragonflier, the first Vekoma at the park, was added in 2019. This suspended family coaster mimics the flight of a Smoky Mountain dragonfly as it speeds through the terrain in a twisting, unpredictable path. With the rush
of wind and the thrill of flight, there’s nothing more exhilarating than a ride on the wings of a dragonfly!
On the heels of the park’s first Vekoma coaster, 2023 will see the addition of the park’s second Vekoma: Big Bear Mountain! This time the ride will be the longest coaster at Dollywood, taking guests of all ages on an unforgettable
family-friendly expedition in search of the Big Bear. Circling Wildwood Grove for nearly two minutes on 3,990 feet of track, this gigantic coaster is a first of its kind at Dollywood with onboard audio, including music and announcements
from Ned Oakley himself.
Carowinds
Carowinds opened on March 31, 1973, at a cost of $70 million, after a four-year planning period led by Charlotte businessman Earl Patterson Hall. He was inspired to build the park by a 1956 trip to Disneyland and a dream of bringing North
and South Carolina closer together. Named for the winds that blew across the Carolinas, the park is celebrating its 50th birthday in 2023.
Carolina Goldrusher is the oldest roller coaster at Carowinds, opening with the park on March 31, 1973. This Arrow Dynamics mine train rips through the Carolina foothills at speeds of 30 mph and features two lift hills
and a 43-foot drop. Be sure to ride the newly painted gold train to celebrate this coaster’s 50th birthday!
Designed by John Allen for Philadelphia Toboggan Company, Woodstock Express opened in 1975 as the park’s first wooden coaster. Climb aboard and hold on tight, because one trip aboard this classic ride will turn all kiddos
into roller coaster enthusiasts for life.
Following the success of the Carolina Goldrusher seven years prior, Carowinds reached out to Arrow Dynamics for a record-breaking coaster. When the Carolina Cyclone originally debuted in March 1980, it was the first
roller coaster in the world with four inversions and is still a fan favorite 43 years later!
In 1992, B&M made its coaster debut at Carowinds with Vortex, the South’s first stand-up roller coaster. With its two inversions (a loop and a corkscrew), this ride still packs a punch in its small footprint.
Hurler, an International Coasters, Inc. wooden coaster, opened in 1994. This classic wooden coaster features an oval-shaped track with one outer lap and two smaller inner laps taken at speeds of 50 mph.
Before you could walk, you had to crawl. Before you got a driver’s license, you had to put in time as a student driver. Likewise, before future roller coaster enthusiasts drop from unheard-of heights at mind-bending speeds at
Carowinds, they need to train on a ride like Wilderness Run. This 1998 addition from E&F Miler Industries is the perfect starter coaster for future enthusiasts.
Introduced to Carowinds in 1999, Afterburn is the park's third tallest and fastest roller coaster. On this B&M inverted coaster, riders fly through six inversions, including a space drop, a vertical loop, an Immelmann,
a zero G roll, a batwing, a flat spin and finally a spiral.
Ricochet, a Mack Rides wild mouse, has been thrilling riders with its hairpin turns and steep drops since its addition to the park in 2002.
Kiddy Hawk is the perfect coaster for kids who may have outgrown the smaller rides in Camp Snoopy but aren’t quite ready, or tall enough, for the big thrills. This 2003 Vekoma suspended family coaster was added in 2003
and rounded out a nice collection of rides geared toward families.
Nighthawk, the Carolinas’ first flying coaster, is the closest thing to flying without growing wings! Soar through the Carolina skies and over the water as you dive, dip and twist through a daring adventure. This Vekoma
Flying Dutchman originally opened in 2000 at Great America but was relocated to Carowinds in 2004.
Another relocated coaster, The Flying Cobras, originally opened in 1996 at the now defunct Geauga Lake. Following that park’s closing, this Vekoma Boomerang was given new trains, new paint and a new name when it opened
at Carowinds in 2009.
The era of extreme thrills at the park kicked off in 2010 with the addition of Intimidator. This B&M hypercoaster was the tallest, fastest, longest coaster ever built at Carowinds and is still one of the must-ride coasters
13 years later.
Intimidator’s records at the park only lasted five years before the park wanted something that put Carowinds on the map for good. The 2015 addition of Fury 325 shattered records not only at the park, but around
the world. Riders will “Feel the sting!” on this B&M hypercoaster that is currently the tallest, fastest and longest gigacoaster in North America and the tallest roller coaster with a chain lift in the world.
Opened in 2019 as the first double-launch roller coaster in the Carolinas, Mack Rides’ Copperhead Strike delivers twice the boost and twice the bite. “Double launch” means the ride not only takes off at an incredible 0
to 42 mph in 2.5 seconds, but midway through the second thrust of acceleration launches into the next half of the experience. A series of fast, tight, close-to-the-ground maneuvers are tangled with five head-over-heels inversions --
the most of any double launch coaster in North America.

The parks will do their best to accommodate special dietary needs.
ACCESSIBILITY RENTALS Please indicate on the registration form if you plan to rent a wheelchair or electric scooter. This will help the park to understand the number of rental requests. This does not reserve a rental for you.
ECVs, wheelchairs and strollers will be available, including during all ERT sessions, at Dollywood and Carowinds. We strongly encourage you to go online to each park's website to reserve them in advance to avoid any disappointment
due to late arrivals and limited inventory.

OPTIONAL CHARTER BUS SERVICE FROM DOLLYWOOD TO CAROWINDS The bus transportation between Dollywood and Carowinds was canceled due to lack of sign ups (under 10).
ACE has received numerous
requests to provide a private charter bus service from Dollywood to Carowinds. We are listening, and the ACE Executive Committee has decided to try this service. This does not mean transportation will be offered for future national
events. Please be advised of the following:
- This is a one-way private bus transportation service from Dollywood to Carowinds. The maximum capacity is 56 passengers.
- Amenities include on-board restroom, reclining bucket seats and complimentary Wi-Fi. There will be plenty of space under the bus for any size luggage to accommodate all passengers.
- The bus will depart from the DreamMore Resort on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at 8 a.m. sharp. The bus will not be making any stops so the travel time will be approximately four hours. You will be dropped off at Carowinds.
You will not be picked up at your departure hotel nor dropped off at your destination hotel.
- You are responsible for providing your own transportation to/from airports, to/from bus terminals, between your hotels and parks, etc.
- Reservations will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. You must be attending Coaster Con 45 to make a reservation and purchase your seat when registering for the event. The optional add-on for this service is on the Coaster
Con 45 online registration form. If the bus service sells out, you can request to be added to a waitlist by contacting ACE's office at 469.278.6223, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Central time.
- The price is $50 per person. If we do not get a minimum of 36 passengers by May 15, 2023, the bus transportation service will be canceled and you will receive a refund. In addition, because this might affect your ability
to attend Coaster Con 45, an exception will be made to the ACE refund policy. You will receive a full registration refund if canceling the private bus service results in your having to cancel your attendance at Coaster Con 45.
You will be notified by email on or before May 16, 2023, if the bus service is canceled. You will then have until May 24, 2023, to notify ACE if you need to cancel your Coaster Con 45 registration.
Cancellations must be made by contacting ACE’s office at 469.278.6223, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Central time. After May 24, 2023, cancellations will not be permitted.
