Media - World's Largest Coaster Club Honors Cedar Point Roller Coaster With Historic Distinction

Blue Streak to be recognized as the 46th ACE Roller Coaster Landmark

Sandusky, OH (June 20, 2022) - The American Coaster Enthusiasts (ACE) will unveil a landmark plaque for Cedar Point’s Blue Streak during Coaster Con 44. Opened on May 23, 1964, Blue Streak is the park's oldest roller coaster as well as the only credited coaster design of Frank Hoover of Philadelphia Toboggan Coasters, Inc.

“The Blue Streak has been a Cedar Point classic for almost 60 years. It’s a rite of passage for young riders looking to transition to the next big coaster thrill,” said Tony Clark, Cedar Point’s director of communications. “We’re honored that our friends from American Coaster Enthusiasts have designated Blue Streak as an official ACE Roller Coaster Landmark. We will ensure it remains a classic coaster thrill for riders of all ages for many years to come.”

The designation as an ACE Roller Coaster Landmark is reserved for rides of historic significance. Blue Streak’s iconic structure was originally natural wood in color but received its signature blue paint scheme in 1968. This snappy, airtime-filled, out-and-back coaster, named after Sandusky High School’s athletic team, attains a maximum height of 78 feet and reaches a maximum speed of 40 mph after the first 72-foot drop.

“We are honored to have the opportunity to celebrate Cedar Point's Blue Streak as an ACE Roller Coaster Landmark,” said David Dragun, ACE’s preservation director. “Preservation of treasures like Blue Streak allows guests to continue to make new memories with future generations of rides.”

The landmark presentation ceremony coincides with Coaster Con 44, the largest annual gathering of ACE members with almost 900 members in attendance from 38 states and 4 countries.
