Do you remember the excitement, anxiety and exhilaration of your first ride on a roller coaster? This is an experience that is tough to replicate in our lives, but Six Flags Great Adventure has succeeded, with a ride on its newest roller coaster, Jersey Devil Coaster, the world’s longest, steepest and fastest single-rail coaster, constructed by Rocky Mountain Construction.
Approaching the station, riders immediately know that a unique experience awaits them when they see the thin train soaring around a single rail led by the intimidating face of the Jersey Devil. The queue leads through the story of the Jersey Devil that is based on 200-year-old folklore, well known in the community and historically tied to the area of the park where the coaster is located. Kristin Fitzgerald, marketing and public relations manager, shared that the park has always wanted to integrate this theme into the park, but it needed the right ride for it.

Jersey Devil Coaster is tucked between Nitro and Congo River Rapids and the lake; the orange track creates a stunning view against the natural green of the landscape. Progressing through the station, riders begin to feel the energy and excitement of this ride.
Loading is continuous as restraints release for each car when the train enters the station, and riders are continuously loading and unloading on the 12-passenger, inline train. Lap bars are lowered over heads as riders sit in the train, legs straddling either side of the monorail track. The train is designed to sit low over the track, so riders are truly riding on the back of the Jersey Devil. Exiting the station, the train immediately — and loudly — climbs the 130-foot lift hill. Crossing the top of the hill, riders encounter the 87-degree drop, and the nonstop action begins with only a quick trip through a mid-run brake. Park President John Winkler shared that this coaster brings something different and special that the park previously could not offer guests. With its unique elements, like the three dramatic inversions, including a 180-degree stall, raven dive and zero-gravity roll, Jersey Devil Coaster offers a ride like no other in the park. He also highlights that this coaster offers a great opportunity for families to experience it together, since it has a 48-inch height requirement. With four-train operation, this coaster will keep guests moving through the experience.

This tight footprint coaster packs a surprising punch in its 3,000 feet of track and speeds up to 58 mph and surprisingly feels like a longer ride than it is. Riders shared that the ride is very different from the front to the back of the train. The front seat offers wonderful views and great negative Gs, whereas the back offers more intensity – both very satisfying. Riders also noticed that riders of all sizes fit comfortably into the train with no difficulty.
Six Flags Great Adventure has truly enhanced its collection of coasters with the addition of Jersey Devil Coaster — a distinctive ride that will offer riders thrilling memories.

Looks like a great coaster, hoping six flags will build another wooden coaster to replace rolling thunder.
We visited SFGA for Jersey Devil's public opening on Sunday 6/13. Issues at the top of the lift hill caused a delayed opening to temporarily close the ride, which remained closed as we left the park in the mid-afternoon. Can anyone confirm that the ride has be able to resume operation?
