ACE COASTER CLASSICS AND ACE ROLLER COASTER LANDMARKS FACT SHEET

American Coaster Enthusiasts promotes preservation of roller coasters by bringing public attention to their value in our lives, economy and memories. Plaques provided by ACE recognize selected roller coasters as either an ACE Coaster Classic or an ACE Roller Coaster Landmark and allow riders to celebrate how special the ride is to the park and the world.

An ACE Coaster Classic recognizes wooden roller coasters that operate in the traditional design and safely allow riders to experience the thrill of the classic ride. They include the following:

  • Traditional lap bars that allow riders to experience airtime, or negative Gs (that sensation of floating). Individual ratcheting lap bars do not meet this requirement.
  • No restraint or device to restrict movement, allowing riders to slide from side to side.
  • An unimpeded view of the track ahead of the train. Roller coasters with headrests on every seat or the majority of seats do not meet this requirement.
  • No restriction on guests’ choice of seat. Some parks' operating procedures assign where guests sit, disqualifying them from ACE Coaster Classic status.

Currently, 30 roller coasters operate around the world as ACE Coaster Classics.
