They say that change is good and our organization is no exception. With the start of the new term, the Executive Committee has a fresh makeup. There is one new club officer and four members of the Executive Committee have decided to retire.
Treasurer Bill Graves has been an ACE member since 1992 and has been active in ACE and on the merchandise committee for several years handling sales of back issues of Roller Coaster! magazine. He replaces Jerry Willard who could not run again due to term limits.
Historian Dave Hahner has been an ACE member since 1980 and helped organize some of the first local events in the Western Pennsylvania region, including the first KennyKon in 1989. Since 1993, he and his wife, Terry, have been on the Membership Committee, answering inquiries from potential members. He has been an Assistant Regional Rep, serving his region since 2001. He replaces Richard Munch, who has retired.
As Merchandise Director, we welcome Stacey Smilek of East Stroudsburg, PA. Stacey will fill the shoes of Lee Colletti, who has decided to retire after six years of service. Stacey has been an ACE member since 1997 and has volunteered her services at several ACE events. Stacey relishes the opportunity to be able to serve ACE in a greater capacity.
Registration Director Maggie Altman has stepped up from her role as Assistant Registration Director to replace the retiring Dave Bird. Maggie has been an ACE member since 1985 and in 1996 became an Assistant Regional Representative, helping plan the 1998 Kennywood convention. From 1999 to 2002 she held the position of Regional Rep. She has been responsible for registration at every convention since 1998 to enable the Registration Director to attend the Executive Committee meeting.
Howard Gillooly will take over the reins of Preservation Director from Matt Crowther, who has also retired. Howard has been an ACE member since May of 1979 and had volunteered in many capacities including being co-chair of the Coaster Con XXVII committee. Howard has also been Regional Rep for the NW Ohio/Michigan region as well as Assistant Rep for the NE Ohio region. Howard laments that he has seen the demise of too many parks, Geauga Lake’s hitting closest (literally) to home. As Preservation Director he hopes to be instrumental in documenting and preserving what is still left of classic parks and rides.
ACE welcomes these new members and thanks the outgoing Executive Committee members for their dedication and hard work. ACE is truly blessed to have had the service of these five dedicated individuals.
