Six Flags Fiesta Texas announced plans to transform its iconic Rattler wood coaster into the hybrid Iron Rattler, which will make its striking debut next spring.
Following on the heels of the successful transformation of Texas Giant into New Texas Giant at sister park Six Flags Over Texas, Iron Rattler will combine classic wooden support structure with modern track crafted of steel, allowing for a smooth ride, swift overbanked turns and even an inversion. Utilizing state-of-the-art Iron Horse Track from Rocky Mountain Construction Group, the innovative Iron Rattler will have a staggering drop of 171 feet (with a drop angle of 81 degrees), speeds reaching 70 miles per hour, four over-banked turns — more than any other hybrid coaster — and the first of its kind to feature a barrel roll inversion.
The original Rattler wooden coaster, Fiesta Texas' only major coaster when the park opened in 1992, offered its farewell run on August 5. Construction on Iron Rattler is already underway and will take approximately eight months to complete. For more information about the new Iron Rattler (including a video) click here.
