SIX FLAGS MAGIC MOUNTAIN TO THROTTLE THE COMPETITION

Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, California, announced on August 30 what the park says will be the world's tallest and fastest looping roller coaster for 2013.

Full Throttle is a custom design by Premier Rides of Maryland. The one-of-a-kind triple-launch coaster will launch riders from 0 to 70 miles per hour into a record-breaking 160-foot-tall loop. On the return back to the station, the loop will serve as a "Top Hat" element, in which the trains will trace the outside of the same loop. The three launches include two forward launches and one backward launch into and out of a special effects tunnel.

The addition of Full Throttle will bring the total number of coasters at Six Flags Magic Mountain back up to 18, a record number that the park had briefly in 2011 before its Giant Inverted Boomerang was relocated to Six Flags New England. Cedar Point and Six Flags Magic Mountain have battled in the media over the years for the title of "roller coaster capital of the world" by operating more coasters than any other amusement park. In 2013, Cedar Point will have 16 roller coasters once GateKeeper opens.

A specific opening date for Full Throttle has not been announced. Land clearing on the former site of the Log Jammer log flume began in the fall of 2011.
