Dollywood, in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, has announced its newest roller coaster addition, Lightning Rod, to debut in 2016. To be located on Dollywood's Jukebox Junction, Lightning Rod passengers will experience nearly 20 seconds of airtime in trains of 12 cars carrying two passengers each.
The world's fastest and first launched wooden coaster from Rocky Mountain Construction will be 20 stories tall. Riders will be launched from zero to 45 mph up the lift hill before a 73-degree, 165-foot first drop. Lightning Rod will have a track length of 3800 feet and will have a top speed of up to 73 mph. Riders will experience 12 airtime moments, 90+-degree overbanked turns, a non-inverting half-loop, and a ride-ending quadruple-down section.
A March 2016 debut is planned. Meanwhile, check out all the finer details here.
