GALVESTON ISLAND HISTORIC PLEASURE PIER OPENS

Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier opened on Texas' gulf shore over Memorial Day weekend. Bright colors, a variety of rides and fun shops and restaurants fill the 1,130 foot-long pier. Many of the pier's 16 rides were operational by Memorial Day weekend, but not all.

Iron Shark, the custom Gerstlauer Euro-Fighter should open by the first or second week of June. Cars were testing continuously on the steel coaster during opening weekend.

Other headline attractions, such as the 230-foot-tall Texas Star Flyer swing ride, will also open in the coming weeks.
