On Thursday, January 28, crews began dismantling Libertyland's Zippin Pippin roller coaster. According to city Housing and Community Development director Robert Lipscomb, the workers are taking the coaster apart with care in hopes that parts can be preserved.
Zippin Pippin has been standing idle since the park closed in October, 2005. Libertyland was home to three coasters: Revolution, an Arrow coaster with a vertical loop and double corkscrew was sold to DelGrosso's Park in Pennsylvania but has yet to be installed. No information is available as to the whereabouts of the Wisdom Dragon Wagon.
Zippin Pippin was built in 1923 by John Miller. At the time of the park's closure it was one of the ten oldest wooden coasters in operation.
