After 43 Summers, Kennywood Retires Its Log Jammer

It wasn't a roller coaster, but it could not have been more loved by enthusiasts if it were one. The Arrow Log Jammer opened at the West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, park in 1975 at the height of the genre's popularity as regional theme parks were being built across the United States. Kennywood's Log Jammer featured the last remaining down-and-up spillway element, originally installed on and removed from four other Arrow flumes. Only three days' notice was given by Kennywood's parent company, Palace Entertainment, of the ride's September 17 closure; nonetheless, a major campaign to reverse this decision and "save the Log Jammer" was launched and has gained wide support, encouraged by the presumption that no firm plans to redevelop the site have been set.
