The Swamp Fox roller coaster at Family Kingdom Amusement Park, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, was recognized as an historic structure by Myrtle Beach City Council on March 28, 2017.
The wooden thrill ride is emblematic of Myrtle Beach's unique history. The coaster opened in 1966 and features 2,400 feet of track, a maximum 65-foot drop and a top speed of 50 mph. It sustained significant damage during Hurricane Hugo in the 1980s, and was refurbished in 1992.
Swamp Fox has been recognized before, when the American Coaster Enthusiasts granted it ACE Roller Coaster Landmark status and commemorated its 50th anniversary in 2016.
