Nürburgring, the world famous motor sport race track in Nürburg, Germany, will premier a new attraction in 2009. The Race Coaster will catapult a train of 8 riders from 0 to 134.8 mph in 2.5 seconds. The train will then race around a 1.2 kilometer (3,937 foot) oval before returning back to the station. S&S Power of Logan Utah, is manufacturing the ride. ACE is not certain of the exact details of the ride, but it appears that it does not have any hills, leading to the question: Is this really a coaster? Regardless, the attraction will exceed the 128 mph speed of Six Flags Great Adventure’s Kingda Ka, currently the fastest coaster in the world. The fastest air launched coaster, manufactured by S&S power, is Dodonpa at Fuji-Q Highland in Japan.
The Race Coaster is part of an expansion project called Nürburgring 2009, which is currently under construction. The expansion includes a Science Center/Museum, indoor arena, event hall, welcome center, go kart track, 160-room hotel, new 5,000 seat grandstand with a business lounge, and restaurants.
