Barbara E. Knoebel, one of the driving forces behind the success of Knoebels Amusement Resort died of cancer on Friday, November 27. She was 66.
Barbara served as manager of the park office and as group sales manager, overseeing outings for the many groups that visited, and arranging catered meals for thousands of guests each season. She worked side by side with Dick Knoebel, her husband of 41 years, often putting in over 100 hours a week during the park season. Those who attended the Spring Preservation Conference this past year or one of the many events hosted by Knoebels over the years will probably remember her.
In September, Dick and Barbara traveled to Legoland California where Amusement Today honored them with the Golden Ticket award as industry Persons of the Year for 2009. The couple received a standing ovation from their contemporaries in the amusement park industry.
In addition to her various activities within the community, Barbara was active in both the Pennsylvania Amusement Parks Association and the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA). She served on several IAAPA committees, most notably the original Hall of Fame Committee.
